Fawad Ijaz Khan, Haji Ashraf Pakhali shine in Omar Associates’ win in Super Veterans T20 opener

KARACHI: Fine knocks from skipper Fawad Ijaz Khan and Haji Ashraf Pakhali helped Omar Associates Super Veterans (Over-60) overpower Naya Nazimabad Super Veterans by 103 runs in the opening match of First Super Veterans T20 Cricket Tournament here at the Naya Nazimabad Stadium.

The Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), with the collaboration of the Sindh Seniors Welfare Cricket Association (SSWCA), is organising the first-ever cricket tournament for over-60 players. Omar Associates, Naya Nazimabad, Hush Puppies and Airport Gymkhana are the four participating teams in the event.

Batting first after winning the toss, Omar Associates posted a massive total of 206 for the loss of only two wickets in the allotted 20 overs. The tempo was set by the opening pair of Fawad and Ashraf, who scored 120 runs together.

Left-handed Fawad scored 61 off 53 balls with a couple of fours, and Ashraf contributed a hurricane unbeaten 62 off only 26 balls, hitting four massive sixes and five fours.

Naya Nazimabad managed only 103 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Hanif ST remained unbeaten on 37, while skipper Arif Habib made 20. Tahir Rasheed, Ali Asghar, Anwar Baba and Ejaz Faqih were the wicket-takers for Omar Associates. Ashraf was named the Player of the Match.
