Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi emir Hafiz Naim Ur Rehman has said that dog-bite cases are being reported in the city daily, but hospitals do not have anti-rabies vaccines.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he said he was not aware of why the DMCs had not yet launched stray dog-culling drive as the situation was getting serious with each passing day. The Sindh minister for local bodies said that it would take five to eight years to kill these dogs in Sindh, but by that time thousands of innocent citizens would have been killed, he said and demanded from the federal government to arrange imports of the anti-rabies vaccine from India despite tensions with the neighbouring country, as it was just a humanitarian cause.

The JI leader said that three parties – the PPP, PTI and MQM-Pakistan – blamed each other for the problem of stray dogs, but no one was prepared to take measures to kill them. He recalled that there was a time when stray dogs were eliminated by the KMC health department.
