Dacoits on the rampage in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: Dacoits took away cash, mobile phones and other valuables in 18 incidents here on Sunday. Dacoits intercepted Intezar Ali at Tatlewali and snatched cash and a cell phone while area armed men entered the shop of Muhammad Amin at Qila Didar Singh and took away Rs 65,000 and other valuables. Saddam Hussain was deprived of Rs 87,000 and two cell phones in the same area. Dacoits looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from the house of Mudassar Yousaf at Kamoke while bandits snatched cash and other articles from Muhammad Nadeem at Aroop. Ashiq was deprived of cash and a cell phone in the same area. Moeen was looted by dacoits at Sadar while armed men intercepted Naveed and snatched Rs 70,000 and two cell phones from him at Ludhewala. Dacoits looted cash and gold ornaments from the house of Noman at Tatlewali. Bandits took away cash and other valuables from the houses of Muhammad Waheed, Muhammad Shabraiz, Hafiz Nisar, Aman Rashid and Muhammad Bashir while a car of Akif Sheikh and motorcycles of Muhammad Shoaib and Umair Hussain were also stolen from different parts of eth city.

CRACKDOWN ON PROFITEERS: Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmed has said that a massive crackdown is being conducted on profiteers on daily basis. Addressing a meeting here, the commissioner said that 444 shopkeepers had been fined and 59 FIRs had been registered against them. The commissioner while appreciating the performance of the price control magistrates said that regular checking of prices of food items must continue to get the desired results and stability in prices. He told that 60 shopkeepers were fined in Gujranwala district and 16 FIRs were registered while 208 were fined in Gujrat and 18 FIRs were registered against the shopkeepers. He told that the action would continue against the profiteers and hoarders to control the prices of daily use items.

ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIFE: A man died in an accident at Wazirabad on Sunday. Mehr Zafar was on his way when his motorcycle collided with a van near Alipur Chattha. As a result, he died on eth spot.

ELECTROCUTED: A truck driver was electrocuted at Rahwali on Sunday. Arshad Shah was reversing his vehicle which was full of sand when the truck touched electric cables. As a result, he received severe shocks and died on the spot.
