A lawmaker of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Tariq Masood Arain, took oath as a provincial minister on Saturday.
Sindh governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan administered the oath to Arain at a ceremony held at the Governor’s House which was also attended by the Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah.
The proceedings were conducted by Chief Secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon.
Tariq Masood was elected from PS-24 Nawabshah for the third time. Till now he had been a member of the Sindh Assembly’s committees on excise, taxation and narcotics, information and archives, home services, general administration and coordination department.
Arain’s placement in the provincial cabinet was only made possible because the chief minister accepted the resignation of PPP MPA from Lyari Mohammad Jawaid Nagori after he stepped down from the portfolio of kutchi abadis and spatial development.
Nagori had tendered his resignation on Friday following the airing of footages showing him and other candidates of the 2013 election taking an oath of allegiance on May 11 from the leader of Lyari’s banned People’s Aman Committee, Uzaor Jan Baloch. Arain is likely to receive the portfolio abandoned by Jawaid Nagori.
Meanwhile, it is likely that the provincial cabinet will undergo another reshuffle. The education department has been without a minister since Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani has not yet taken oath as a minister.
