The Capital Development Authority (CDA), after completion of the operation to demolish an illegal 'katchi abadi' here on Sunday, started work to level the land and remove debris to pave the way for development of Sector I-11/1.
The four-day operation against the illegal slums was carried out on the directives of the Islamabad High Court by the CDA Enforcement Directorate supported by the ICT administration, Police and Rangers as well as other wings of the civic body.
Heavy machinery was used to demolish illegal structures in Sector I-11/1 and I-11/4.
On the last day of the operation on Sunday, the remaining slum-dwellers voluntarily took out their household goods from their houses which were later demolished.
The CDA chairman has directed the CDA Engineering Wing to come up with a comprehensive plan for expeditious development of the vacated area, whereas the Planning and Estate Management has been directed to formulate a strategy for handing over of the plots to the original allottees of the sector.
The chairman said that the removal of this major slum would also help facilitate the CDA in taking action against other encroachments and illegal slums in the city as well as to expedite the process of development of the residential sectors.
On the orders of the CDA chairman, the civic body in collaboration with the ICT administration provided transport facility to the people being evicted from the area for their next destination. The health directorate also carried out fumigation in the area.
