The hepatitis control body has planned to launch a vaccination and awareness campaign across Sindh in phases after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Talking to PPI, the provincial manager of the Hepatitis Prevention and Control Programme said the major focus of hepatitis programme was to create awareness among general public under the theme ‘Prevention is better than cure.’
He said that 20,000 new hepatitis cases have been reported from different districts of province since January 2014 and informed that there were 80 centers running in province under the programme, providing screening, vaccination and treatment facilities to patients.
He said a total of 175,000 hepatitis patients had been registered by the programme since 2009, out of which a significant number of patients had completed their vaccination course while thousands of patients were still under treatment in different centers being run by the body.
To a question, the manager said the World Hepatitis Day would be observed on 28 July and the administration has divided the events into different categories like awareness rallies, seminars and media campaigns in small and big cities of the province in order to convey message to public at maximum level
He said prevalence of hepatitis-C was high in the province as compared to other related viruses, explaining that hepatitis was an infectious disease affecting primarily the liver.
The manager advised the people to follow the instruction of experts and adopt preventative measures to avoid the virus.
