Transporters increase fares

Rawalpindi: The long route transporters, without any government notification have increased fares upto Rs20 per ticket after increase of POL prices here on Monday.

The heavy transporters loading vehicles have also increased carriage upto 5 per cent and demanded government to turn back decision otherwise they will increase carriage more in this regard.

Local transporters have called an emergency meeting and filed an application with District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) office to increase fares according to increase of fuel rates. The local transporters have warned to start wheel jam strike if government not increased fares.

The District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) Secretary Khalid Yameen Satti told ‘The News’ that long route transporters could not increase fares by own without notification. We will take action against long route transporters, he warned. He said that local transporters have filed application to increase fares, which I have sent their demands to Punjab Transport Authority (PTA) for further action, he said.
