Postal employees lament lack of facilities

Qadeer Tanoli
The postmen of the federal territory are still deprived of summer uniform or any sort of uniform for the past many months.
The central leader of National Organisation of Postal Employees (NOPE) CBA, Zaigham Gardaizi while talking to The News said that the representatives of the employees of his department altogether reject the meager ad hoc relief of 7.5 percent announced in the recent federal budget.
Gardaizi said the postmen deputed in post offices of Islamabad are still deprived of their uniforms. He said even the available uniforms, in most of cases, are poorly-fitted and out of size. They are also not being given petrol for conveyance which is another major issue and needs attention of the authorities concerned.
He said while post offices are being set up in the new areas fresh hiring of the staff has not being made for the past several years which is why the current staff is over-burdened.
It is learnt the administration of the Pakistan Post opened a sub-office at Malur near Bhara Kahu to appease a former chairman of the Senate. This sub-office hardly makes sale of Rs300 to Rs400 per day while operational cost of the office is much higher.
According to Gardaizi the low-paid employees used to have two-day weekly off but later on this facility was withdrawn while the high officials continue to enjoy two -day weekly off. He said after withdrawal of this facility working hours schedule was not changed and they still work under the old schedule.
