Sindh’s governor said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Imran Khan had approved the proposal of issuing health insurance cards to the needy citizens in seven selected districts of Sindh.
Imran Ismail made this announcement during a meeting with a four-member delegation of the Patients Aid Foundation, which is associated with the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The delegation was led by Dr Tariq Mahmood.
He said the government’s insurance cards scheme will ensure that the people get the best of the health facilities. Every recipient of the card will be entitled to treatment worth Rs700,000 or more a year at any hospital, he added.
He appreciated the services of NGOs and welfare bodies striving to provide free health care to needy patients. He said the services of such organisations motivate philanthropists and the affluent to generously donate for improving the health sector.
The governor said the present government is committed to providing free and the best health care to the needy across the country, adding that the health insurance card scheme is one such step in that direction. The delegation informed him that the foundation has been ensuring free health services to patients in pathology, blood bank, nephrology, neurology, cyber knife, gynaecology, chest ward, medical ward, ICU, radiology, oncology and other JPMC departments.
Bagh Ibne Qasim
Governor Ismail also visited the newly renovated Bagh Ibne Qasim in the Clifton neighbourhood. Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar briefed him on the work carried out at the park for its renovation.
Ismail said the park is now in a much improved condition, adding that the mayor and the provincial local government department deserve praise for carrying out this project. The renovated park that spreads over 135 acres will be inaugurated by the PM during his upcoming visit to the city.
