LAHORE : Punjab Emergency Service organised an awareness walk in connection with ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ from Rescue Command & Control, LOS to Shama Chowk, Fereozepur Road.
The walk, led by Provincial Minister for Disaster Management Mian Khalid flanked by DG Rescue Punjab Dr Rizwan Naseer, assistant commissioner Lahore besides rescue officer from Headquarters and academy and a large number of rescuers, rescue scouts.
The objective of the drive was to make country pollution free and clean & green. In this regard, a week of ‘Clean & Green Pakistan’ in all districts of Punjab was celebrated from 18-23 March in collaboration with the district administration, social welfare department, civil society and the community emergency response teams.
Accordingly, seminars, awareness walks, and trainings have been organized though out the week in which thousands of trees were planted in districts of Punjab.
Besides, information and awareness material based streamers, banners, and stickers along with thought provoking message regarding the drive as well as health and safety material was distributed among general public in this awareness campaign to sanitise the citizen about their individual and collective role and contribution towards make the country safe, prosperous, clean and green.
Punjab DG Rescue Dr Rizwan said all the segments of the society should play their role to make this country clean and green. He said community participation in the walk was a symbol of ownership by the community and if joint efforts were not made on priority basis by the general public, media and corporate sector to make this earth ‘pollution free’. He said the trees were symbol of healthy and prosperous life and they provide us fresh oxygen and absorb the carbon dioxide. He expressed concerns over air pollution termed greatest environmental threat to health and said, “We should have to take it seriously and play a vigorous role in this regard being responsible citizen of the society”.
The minister, speaking on the occasion, said the government has taken the initiative as it was need of the hour to meet the environmental challenges. “I would like to request all the citizens to play their role to make this campaign successful. He also appreciated rescue teams for their active participation and role for making homeland ‘pollution free’.
The DC Lahore and all other special dignitaries also spoke the occasion.
Earlier, Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce and Investment Mian Aslam Iqbal and Minister for Disaster Management along with the DG Recue and AC Lahore planted saplings and prayed for progressive and development of the country.
