Since Government's decision to stop movement of heavy traffic on Kashmir Highway and divert all such vehicles to the I J Principal Road during the year 2008, the condition of the road has been deteriorating and at present it is in bad shape. The road's condition further deteriorated due to winter rains.

For the time, on directives of the CDA chairman Amer Ali Ahmed, the civic body has allocated Rs 30 million while the engineering wing has been asked finalise PC-1 of the maintenance work within a period of 10 days. Seeing condition of the road, the budget being allocated for repair work seems is insufficient.

Thousands of commuters coming from Rawalpindi cantonment and many areas of the city have to use I J Principal Road to reach their work places via 9th Avenue on daily basis.
