Importance of Pakistan Day highlighted

BAHAWALPUR: A seminar was held to commemorate the Pakistan Day in the light of Lahore Resolution of 1940 on Friday.

The moot was organised at Islamia University Bahawalpur. Engr Prof Dr Aamir Ijaz, Vice Chancellor, presided over the seminar. Professor Dr Hameed Raza Siddiqui delivered an exclusive lecture.

He highlighted the significance of the Lahore Resolution that demanded a separate homeland for the Muslims of sub-continent. He said March 23 is the day of commitment as Muslims of India announced their determination to achieve a separate homeland and within seven years Pakistan appeared as a sovereign Muslim state on map of the world.

Faculty members Dr. Aftab Hussain Gillani, Dr Rozina Anjum Naqvi and Agha Sadaf Mahdi also spoke on the occasion.

Our correspondent adds from Lahore: Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs Ijaz Alam Augustine has greeted the entire nation on the eve of Pakistan Day. In a statement, the minister said that Pakistan Day was observed to commemorate the Lahore Resolution of March, 1940 which was passed at Minar-e-Pakistan ground for a separate state for Muslims.

He said that the government was making all possible efforts to materialise the dream of Quaid-e-Azam. He urged the younger generation to get education and achieve their dreams while working towards a stronger and united Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Punjab University’s Department of Gender Studies organised a seminar and various activities in connection with Pakistan Day here on Friday.
