Authorities on Thursday issued directives to close marriage halls in Karachi by 11pm, warning the hall owners of action if the venues remained open after the notified time, Geo News reported.
The decision was made at a meeting presided over by Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani. The meeting was attended by deputy commissioners, police and local officials.
The meeting decided that the decision would be implemented strictly and the action against violators would be launched after two weeks. It was decided that marriage halls found guilty of violating the restriction would be sealed.
The forum also discussed measures to resolve the issue of traffic congestion originating from ceremonies in the city and decided that special measures would be taken to maintain the traffic flow.
In order to finalise action against marriage halls that remained open after 11pm, a meeting will be convened next week. At present, marriage halls in the metropolis are bound to close by midnight.
