A day after lawmakers of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) returned unopposed as members of 22 committees of the Sindh Assembly, Sharjeel Inam Memon, who is currently an MPA of the ruling party, on Wednesday resigned from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the house, citing the reason that it was not appropriate for him to be a PAC member when a case was being heard against him in an accountability court.

Memon who has previously served as the Sindh information minister was one among seven MPAs of the PPP who were elected to the new PAC of Sindh Assembly. In a letter addressed to the Sindh Assembly speaker, Memon said he had seen the notification issued by the speaker’s office in respect of the PAC and as an MPA, being elected to the august PAC was a matter of great honour for him but due to some extraordinary circumstances he would not be able to discharge his duties as the committee’s member. “In the present circumstances, facing a NAB trial, I feel that I will not be in a position to discharge my duties as Member, PAC. Therefore, I would like to tender my resignation from PAC with immediate effect,” the letter read.
