Kashmiri attacked with sword, robbed in India

ISLAMABAD: A Kashmiri shawl seller was attacked with sword and robbed of almost Rs02 lakh by a gang of 4 Hindu extremists in Kolkata city of the eastern Indian state, West Bengal.

According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), Shawl seller Shakoor Ahmad Shah, hailing from Budgam district of held Kashmir, was returning from Sealdah to his rented accommodation in Jadavpur when he was intercepted by some persons near Park Circus Railway Station in the city.

Talking to media, Shakoor said that he left his room to collect money from customers and dealers. He said he boarded a local train from Sealdah in the evening and got down at Park Circus Railway Station to collect money from a customer there.

At about 6:45pm, the train reached Park Circus Railway Station. He said he got down and was walking toward his destination when four persons intercepted me, Shakoor narrated. The men abused me and then assaulted me.

When I showed some resistance, they took out a sword and attacked me with it from left and right, till I fell on the ground.

Then they stole my bag containing Rs195,000 in cash and also a few important documents, he said.

I was screaming in pain, but no one came to my rescue, he added.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Naseem Gilani, son of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, received fresh summons from the Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) asking them to appear before its New Delhi headquarters for questioning in a fake funding case.

This is the second time in about one week that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Naseem Gilani have been summoned by the NIA to New Delhi.

The summons were served on Mirwaiz and Naseem through Srinagar district police.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been asked to appear before the NIA in New Delhi on March 18 and Naseem Gilani on March 19. Mirwaiz has been summoned for questioning in any case for the first time, while Naseem Gilani has been questioned thrice by the NIA.

Naseem has also been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate to its New Delhi headquarters on March 22.
