Several offices destroyed in fire at FTC building

A fire broke out at the Finance & Trade Centre (FTC) building on Sharea Faisal in the wee hours of Sunday and destroyed the offices and records of different companies. However, no casualty was reported.

According to the fire brigade department’s spokesperson, the fire broke out on the sixth floor of the FTC building at around 2am and was brought under control after several hours of efforts.

The spokesperson said that initially, the security guards and other staff members present in the building at the time of the incident attempted to extinguish the fire, but after they failed to bring the blaze under control, they informed the fire brigade department.

According to Chief Fire Officer Tehseen Ahmed Siddiqui, a total of 12 fire tenders and two snorkels participated in the firefighting efforts. He said that the firefighters took at least five hours to douse the blaze.

The spokesperson said that the offices of different companies, including the office of the National Bank, were located on the sixth floor and the fire had damaged all of them. He added that the fire had also engulfed the seventh floor of the FTC building and damaged it partially, but the firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control before more damage could be done.

The fire brigade’s spokesperson said that the actual cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, adding that the fire caused damage to the infrastructure, the furniture and important documents.
