“A local development in Karachi today resulted in light rain and drizzle in some areas of the city while western and southern parts of the city remained sunny and dry,” Director Karachi Met Office Abdur Rashid said while talking to The News.

The maximum rainfall, 3.4 millimeters, was recorded at the Karachi International Airport, followed by Landhi where 2.5mm rain was recorded, Pehalwan Goth received 2.2mm and 2mm rain was recorded at the University Road.

Heavy but brief fall was reported in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Malir and Landhi. Officials said that localised rain had nothing to do with weather system that was causing rains in Balochistan and Upper Sindh, including Larkana and Sukkur.

“Especially Balochistan has received very good winter rains in this year so far and at the moment, it has received 77 per cent above normal rainfall which is extremely good to eliminate drought from the largest province of Pakistan,” Rashid said.

He maintained that the Hub Dam had acquired ample amount of water and water was still pouring into the reservoir due to heavy rains in the catchment area of the Hub. Once filled to capacity, the dam could provide water to Karachi and Lasbela districts for three and a half years, he added.
