The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday announced to hold elections on a vacated Senate seat on June 18 in the Sindh Assembly building.
According to the schedule announced by the ECP, the nominations of the candidates would be held on June 5; scrutiny of nominations would be held on June 8 whereas the final date for filing appeals in case of any objections was fixed as June 10.
The appeals would be disposed off latest by June 12 whereas the last date for withdrawal of candidature was June 13.
The seat fell vacant following Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Senator Abdul Latif Ansari’s resignation in May in order for the party’s Vice President, Sherry Rehman to become a member of the upper house.
According to house rules, Sherry having served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States till May 15, 2013 was not eligible to apply for the membership of the house before two years.
