Ice cream vendor shot dead for resisting mugging bid

An ice cream vendor was shot dead apparently over putting up resistance to a robbery bid in Yousuf Goth on Tuesday.

According to SHO Idress Bangash, the deceased was identified as 26-year-old Mushtaq Rafiq, who was a resident of the 4K Chowrangi area in Surjani.

Two men riding a motorcycle attempted to snatch cash from him when he was selling ice cream on his pushcart in the Surjani police limits. The muggers opened fire at him when he attempted to overpower one of them. The suspects then escaped from the scene. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

Firing on cab

The driver of a ride-hailing vehicle accompanied by a passenger were injured in a firing incident in the Quaidabad area. Police officials said the incident took place near Daud Chowrangi within the limits of the Shah Latif police station.

Rescuers reached the scene and shifted the victims to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medical treatment. The victims were identified as driver as Tayyab and passenger Dr Wasim Jakhrani.

Police officials said a son of the passenger, Sher Azam, in his recorded statement to the police, said that his father along with a compounder was on his way to home from a clinic when an unidentified man came close to him during a traffic jam and asked to get off from the car.

Upon Jakhrani’d refusal, the armed man opened fire at him. As a result, the bullet first hit his father and later hit the driver. The attacker managed to escape from the scene. Police officials said a case would be registered after the police had recorded the statement of the injured doctor.
