‘Encroaching upon’ state lands: ASI sends legal notice to high-ups

KARACHI: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Karachi Police, Shah Jahan, has sent a legal notice through his lawyer to Sindh Inspector General (IG), Additional IG Karachi and Station House Officer (SHO) Jamsheed Quarters Police Station in reply to a notice served on him for demolition of his alleged illegal construction outside and over roof of his government residence.

In his legal notice, the ASI has leveled many serious allegations on the Police Department, including encroaching of state lands that also include 20 acres of Dawood Engineering University illegally.

In his same letter (legal notice), he also claimed that office and building of an SSP of Muslim Abad Police Lines was illegally constructed without any layout plan; two bungalows of SSPs were also illegally constructed in the Police Station Muslimabad jurisdiction.

According to details, apart from Muslimabad Police Station, senior police officers have illegal lavish residences in different police stations and police lines including Garden, Predy, Ferozeabad, Artilary Maidan, Malir, Gizri, Civil Lines and other which they have constructed either encroaching upon plots illegally or getting possessions of houses of lower grade police officials.

This correspondent tried to get the official version of the Police Department and contacted Inspector General Police Sindh Kaleem Imam, Karachi Police chief Dr Ameer Sheikh, spokesman of the Sindh Police and other concerned police officers; called at their official and personal cell numbers, sent them many text messages and WhatsApp messages, many reminders and waited for ten days but till the filling of this story, no one replied.
