Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Thursday the Katchi Abadis department was among those revenue departments which were taken from the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) though it was established in the corporation to regularise slums in the city.
The Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority held control of about 50 per cent of the slums located in urban areas, which affected the KMC revenue, and these urban areas should immediately be returned to the corporation, he said while speaking at a ceremony held at the Katchi Abadis Head Office on the occasion of the inauguration of its model office on Thursday.
Earlier, after formally inaugurating the model office, the mayor took rounds of its different sections. He was briefed by officials about the works and performance of the department in recent years.
