In a statement released on Tuesday, the K-Electric (KE) in a bid to address citizens’ complaints with respect to the ongoing operation clarified that it was solely targeting those involved in electricity theft and heavy defaulters irrespective of their influence.
According to the details provided, raids had so far been conducted in Baldia, Uthal, DHA, PECHS, Garden, FB Area, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Surjani Town, Landhi, Gulistan-e-Johar and Korangi.
Almost 6,500 illegal connections were removed. Illegal connections of two petrol pumps near NED University were disconnected. Four people were arrested from Gulistan-e-Johar and Korangi; one from Baldia.
FIRs against all those involved in the theft have also been registered.
A spokesman for the power utility claimed that teams were working round the clock to rid the city of the menace in order to provide relief to citizens who face the brunt of load shedding due to illegal connections.
On Monday, at least 10,000 illegal connections were cut off and three FIRs were lodged against culprits involved in power theft, including an illegal water hydrant based in North Nazimabad.
Moreover, in raids conducted by the K-Electric teams in connection with the ongoing Operation Burq five illegal PMTs were lifted in Malir, while six people involved in power theft were taken into custody.
Raids were conducted in Baldia, SITE, Bahadurabad, Nazimabad, Tipu Sultan, Garden, Clifton, Defence, Korangi, Johar, Shah Faisal, North Karachi, Surjani, Gulshan and Malir.
The K-Electric spokesman has said that an entire illegal kunda network was pulled down in the Garden and Saddar areas where strong influential people were not only involved in using illegal connections, but providing illegal supply to the other consumers within the area.
