NAWABSHAH: Former adviser to Sindh Chief Minister and PPP leader Sardar Muhammad Ismail Dahri was arrested by the police and sent to district jail for 90 days under the MPO.
SSP Javed Jaskani said a notification in this regard was issued by Home Secretary Mukhtar Ahmad Soomro, which said in order to maintain law and order under Section 3/1 of Maintenance of Public Order 1960 (MPO), Ismail Dahri, the former adviser to Sindh CM, was sent to the district jail on April 21, 2015.
Sources said firing in Shahpur Jahanian Sugar Mill Officers’ Colony was the reason for the arrest. The general manager of mill, Col Anjum Abbasi, and his two guards were injured in firing and a nephew of Ismail Dahri was killed. Later, Dahri staged a sit-in along with the body on the National Highway and blocked it for traffic.
Ismail Dahri claimed that his political opponent, PPP leader and former adviser to CM, Sardar Bahadur Khan Dahri, and Sardar Khan Muhammad Dahri were involved in the incident. He also demanded registration of the case of the murder of his nephew Bakhshal Dahri against the opponents.
The then SSP Abdul Salam Sheikh, who had registered the FIR against their employee, was transferred within hours of the registration of the FIR. Insiders said SSP Abdul Salam Sheikh had removed illegal recovery posts around the sugar mill, which were collecting illegal fee of Rs2,000 each from sugarcane trolleys.
