Four bodies recovered in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Four bodies were recovered from various parts of the city. A police spokesman said that an unidentified body was recovered from Abdullahpur Underpass whereas the body of a 25-year-old youth was found near Korianwala Bridge on Samundri Road.

Similarly, the corpse of a 50-year-old man was recovered from Rakh Branch Canal near Chak 193/R-B while the body of a newborn was recovered from deserted place near Abdullah Bridge police check post. The bodies were dispatched to mortuary for autopsy.

Profiteers fined: The special price control magistrates have imposed a total fine of Rs 864,000 on profiteers in various parts of Faisalabad during the holy month of Ramazan.

A spokesman for the local administration said here Saturday that a vigorous campaign was launched against overcharging and profiteering and during this drive the price control magistrates conducted surprise checking of prices and quality of the daily-use commodities and imposed a fine of Rs 864,000 on profiteers. The price control magistrates also got registered cases against 59 shopkeepers on violation of the Price Control Act, besides sealing their shop, the spokesman added.

Scholarships distributed: Scholarships were distributed among 24 students of Biochemistry Department of the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF).

According to a statement issued by the university here Saturday, the scholarship amount was provided by Agro Vision whereas GCUF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali distributed the scholarship among the students in a formal ceremony. Assistant Prof Biochemistry/Focal Person Scholarships Dr Saadia Javed, Treasurer GCUF Akbar Ali and others were also present on the occasion.

Eight gamblers held: Rodala Road police have arrested eight persons on the charges of gambling.

A police team headed by ASI Manzoor, on a tip-off, raid Chak 27/GB and nabbed eight persons, including accused Hassan, Ahmad and Boota, red-handed while gambling on pigeon flight. The police also recovered bet money, mobile phones, pigeons and other items from their possession and started investigation.

Shutdown programme: The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) has issued a shutdown programme due to necessary repair, maintenance and expansion of electricity lines. According to the programme issued by the company, power supply from Warispura feeder emanating from 132KV Samundri Road grid station will remain suspended from 6am to 8am on Sunday (May 27).

26 criminals arrested: Police claimed to have arrested 26 criminals, including 19 proclaimed offenders, during the last 24 hours. The police also recovered five pistols, 3.09kg charas and 107 liter liquor from their possession. Further investigation is under way.
