Karachi: Two teenagers committed suicide on Tuesday, while the death of a newly-wedded woman in Orangi Town was also being treated as a possible suicide incident.
According to officials, 20-year-old Asma, daughter of Abdul Jabbar, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence in Data Nagar, Sector 8/L of Orangi Town. The body was shifted to the Qatar Hospital for legal formalities.
Police said the deceased had been married just five days ago. Apparently, Asma had not known before the marriage that her husband was blind and, upon realising his disability and that her in-laws had deliberately misled her, she decided to end her life.
Investigators, however, refused to rule out foul play in Asma’s death and said a thorough inquiry would be conducted to ascertain whether she was murdered or had actually committed suicide.
In Mehmoodabad, 17-year-old Imran, son of Fazal Hussain, hanged himself to death after a girl he was interested in rejected his proposal of marriage. His body was shifted to the JPMC for post-mortem.In New Karachi, an 18-year-old commercial painter committed suicide at an under-construction factory in Khamiso Goth.
Police said Babar, son of Nadeem, hanged himself to death with a ceiling fan at the factory. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy and the cause of suicide was not yet known.
