Liquor worth millions seized

A large quantity of contraband liquor worth an estimated Rs70 million being smuggled through international sea routes has been seized in an operation by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and the Pakistan Navy.

According to a spokesperson on Monday, the coordinated operation was carried out during Maritime Security Operations in Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone and involved persistent surveillance and patrolling in the area.

A total of 9,392 liquor bottles and 45,218 beer cans, worth approximately Rs70 million, were seized in the joint operation, the spokesperson said. The seized contraband has been handed over to Customs for further legal proceedings, he added. Earlier in February, Pakistan Navy Ship ASLAT had also seized 5,000 kilogrammes of hashish while operating in the North Arabian Sea.
