The Sindh Rangers arrested 18 suspected criminals, including five target killers, two of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) and three of a banned outfit, during raids in various parts of the city on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the paramilitary force, soldiers conducted raids in Jauharabad and Baldia Town and arrested two men, Amir Khan alias Lamba and Muhammad Hussain Chohan alias Lala. Both were said to be associated with the MQM-L and involved in incidents of robberies and street crimes in the city.
In raids carried out in Kalri, Saeedabad and Samanabad areas, three suspects associated with the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) were taken into custody.
The men were identified as Abdus Samad, Muhammad Asif alias Dada and Muhammad Bilia alias Murshid. They were alleged to be involved in incidents of terrorism and target killings. The paramilitary force also conducted swoops in Eidgah and Jackson areas, and apprehended two suspects associated with Lyari gang war (LGW).
Muhammad Aslam Chohan and Mairaj were said to be involved in target killings and unlawful supplies of arms and ammunition. The border security force, which has been carrying out a targeted operation in Karachi since September 2013, arrested Kamran alias Kalu and Muhammad Jaffar alias Zaffar in Awami Colony and Jackson over charges of being involved in taking extortion money.
Separately, suspects involved in incidents of robberies, drug selling and street crimes were caught in Awami Colony, Jauharabad and Madina Colony. The suspects were identified as Muhammad Umair alias High, Imran, Abid Ali, Muhammad Kamran alias Pashti and Zubari Pathan alias Mulla.
In yet another raids in Landhi, Clifton and Eidgah, soldiers arrested four men, identified as Mohsin Nadir, Muhammad Nasir, Akbar Hussain and Tahih Ali alias Dada, for allegedly selling drugs and gutka in their areas. The Rangers claimed to have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the possession of the suspects, who were handed over to police for trial.
Man commits suicide
A 57-year-old man ended his life by jumping off the roof of a multi-storey building in Saddar due to domestic problems. Nabi Bux Police Station’s SHO Adil Khan said Nadir Khan, son of Ghulab Khan, died after he jumped off the roof of the Central Plaza. The man was taken Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was declared dead by doctors. His family told police he had been facing some issues at home.
