Islamabad: Education should be a priority for youth but one cannot deny the importance of sports, said Federal Directorate of Education Director General Hasnat Ahmad Qureshi on Tuesday.
“Games not only play an important role in physical fitness but also promote mental health. Students participating in games excel in academic performances, too," he said during the annual prize distribution ceremony at the Islamabad Model Postgraduate College H-8 for the session 2017-18.
The event was held to praise the students, who showed excellence in curricular and co-curricular activities. Besides Hasnat Qureshi, who was the chief guest, the ceremony was also attended by FDE Director (colleges) Amber Sultana and principals of various colleges.
The FDE DG gave away trophies, medals and certificates to students for extraordinary achievements in academics and sports. On the occasion, head of the college's Department of Health and Physical Education and secretary of the event organising committee Tahir Bhatti presented the annual college report highlighting the main achievements of the college in the field of sports. He said the college got the overall trophy in athletics in FBISE sports tournament and won the Quid-i-Azam University Hockey tournament. The college honoured all its achievers for having attained an excellent record in the domain of sports too.
