LAHORE: PAKISTAN Ulema Council (PUC) Sunday termed the attacks on non-Muslims’ worship places un-Islamic, unlawful and against the spirit of Shariah.
According to a press release issued here Sunday, in a meeting chaired by PUC Central Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, the PUC strongly condemned the terror attack on the two churches at Yuhannabad and said the elements resorting to such anti-human acts were neither Muslims nor had any patriotism for Pakistan.
The meeting adopted a unanimous resolution condemning in strongest terms the attacks on churches, adding that attacks on worship places were nothing but a sheer conspiracy to spur sectarian violence in the country. The meeting announced to constitute a Women Wing of the Council as well as taking an active part in the upcoming local government elections across Pakistan.
The meeting elected unanimously the following PUC office-bearers: Maulana Abdul Karim Nadeem Central Vice-Chairman, Maulana Abdul Hameed Wattoo Central Deputy Secretary General, Allama Shabbir Ahmed Usmani Secretary General Punjab, Maulana Mumtaz Kalyar Deputy Secretary General Punjab, Maulana Qazi Kafayatullah Patron-in-Chief Gujrat Division.The PUC welcomed Pir Naeemullah Farooqi into the Council, and appointed him Punjab Patron-in-Chief.
