CTD arrests gang of drug peddlers

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have busted a network of notorious drug peddlers and arrested five suspects involved in drug selling and murder cases.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, CTD Karachi chief DIGP Saqib Ismail Memon said that officials received information about the presence of drug peddlers in Keamari Town.

Officials then raided a locality in Sheerin Jinnah Colony, which falls in the limits of Jackson police station, and after a brief skirmish, arrested five suspects who were shifted to the force’s headquarters.

The detained individuals were identified as Momin Khan, Pervez Bakht, Imran Ali, Jan Badhshah and Bahadur Sher. Five 30 bore pistols, two grenades, five kilogrammes of explosive material, three meter detonating wire and five kilogrammes of hashish were seized from them.

Memon further said that Momin Khan was the gang leader and had been wanted by Jackson, Boat Basin and Anti-Narcotics Force police stations in more than 50 cases of murder, attempt to murder, attacking police and drug peddling.

According to the CTD Karachi chief, Momin’s younger brother, Kamal Khan, had been gunned down in a police encounter by the Jackson police and since then, Momin had been planning to take revenge. Moreover, he also killed another drug pusher Laiq Khan over a dispute and had also targeted police constable Hassan Ali Shah with the help of associates Pervez and others, within the limits of the Boat Basin police station.

Meanwhile, the Darakhshan police also claimed to have arrested a man involved in supplying narcotics to youngsters in Defence.

Based on a tip-off, the police raided a house in DHA Phase-VI and arrested Arshad Ansari. They seized 1,050 grammes of hashish and ice, a form of methamphetamine, worth Rs0.1 million.

During interrogation, Ansari disclosed that he belonged to an organised gang operating in DHA which rents flats and arranges dace parties for young people living in the locality, where they sold hashish, ice and drugs to them.

Bodies found

The body of a 40-year-old man was found from his house in Khadim Hussain Goth area of Sohrab Goth late Friday night.

According to SITE Super Highway SHO Sohail Khan, the deceased was identified as Abdul Waheed and his body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy.

Khan said Waheed’s neighbours told police he suffered from epilepsy and the medico-legal officer also stated in his report that he died after suffering from an epileptic seizure. Waheed’s wife belongs to Dir district of Khyber-Pakhtunkwa and he had been found alone at home since she and the children were visiting Dir.

Another body was found at Pakistan Chowk on Saturday. Arambagh SHO Abid Soomro said they found the body of a 45-year-old man on a footpath. He added that the deceased might be a drug addict.
