Two hurt in third SSGC supply line explosion in 20 days

Two men suffered burn injuries as a Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) supply pipeline passing under a general store in Hijrat Colony exploded on Friday. Civil Lines police station SHO Waqar Tanoli said there was an explosion in a shop in Hijrat Colony’s Sector D after which a fire erupted inside the store.

He said there were two men present inside the shop at the time of the incident, both of whom survived with minor injuries. The injured men, one of whom was identified as Shakeel, were rushed to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment and were later discharged.

The officer said a fire department team responded promptly to douse the ensuing blaze. However, there was damage to the property and the goods. This was the third SSGC supply line explosion reported in the city within a span of 20 days.

On March 7, a girl and a boy were injured when a gas pipeline exploded inside a barber shop in Shanti Nagar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The injured were a 15-year-old boy, Faizan Mustafa, and a seven-year-old girl, Raheela Yaseen. Both children survived the explosion without serious injuries.

Prior to that, on February 21, a six-year-old girl was killed and five members of her family were injured when a portion of their house in Nusrat Bhutto Colony collapsed after a gas pipeline exploded.
