‘CTD KP shows better performance in 2017’

PESHAWAR: The statistics of the Counter-Terrorism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have termed 2017 as more successful year since its establishments in the province, a source said on Friday.

A comparative study of the CTD operations during the years 2017 and 2016 revealed that the terrorist incidents declined significantly during the last year. The CTD was set up in KP in 2014 to go after the militants due to the everyday attacks in most parts of the KP. "Around 275 terrorist incidents were reported across the province during 2016, which declined to 133. The number of attacks that were averted in 2016 was 145 while 99 such incidents were reported in 2017," the statistics compiled by the KP Police revealed.

The number of casualties in terrorist incidents also decreased to 73 in 2017 against 190 in 2016. The civilian casualties dropped from 106 to 36, casualties of police dropped from 61 to 26, army from 11 to 7 and casualties of other law-enforcement agencies dropped from 12 in 2016 to 4 in 2017. "As many as 394 militants were arrested by the CTD in 2016 while the number went up to 413 in 2017. Similarly, the number of militants killed remained 62 in 2016 and 79 in 2017," the statistics revealed.
