Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expanded his cabinet by inducting a new provincial minister, Saeed Ghani, into his cabinet in a ceremony held at the Governor House on Tuesday.
Acting Sindh governor Agha Siraj Durrani administered the oath to Ghani, who is an MPA of the Pakistan Peoples Party from Karachi. Ghani followed the footprints of his father, Usman Ghani, a labour leader, and led labourers for quite some time.
The PPP leadership in recognition of his services for the party had earlier made him a senator. Chief Minister Shah had appointed him his adviser on labour. Later, he contested a by-election to PS-114 Karachi and returned successful.
Later, a notification was issued by the provincial chief secretary stating that the portfolio of the Sindh Department of Planning and Development had been given to the newly inducted provincial minister.
Earlier, the portfolio was with the late minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani. A press release said that PPP Karachi Division President MPA Saeed Ghani also met PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at the Bilawal House after taking oath as provincial minister.
A little over a fortnight, Ghani had said the PPP would support a vote of no confidence against Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar if and when one is moved in the City Council. The mayor’s performance is not visible anywhere as he has not been able to utilise the Rs8 billion the Sindh government provided for development projects to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Ghani had told The News.
