KARACHI: A scandal regarding stealing of pay orders of a company owned by an important personality in the Customs Department has been detected.
According to Customs sources, the pay orders worth millions of rupees submitted for various purposes were found missing when a demand was made to return the same after a decision came in favour of the company. Later, upon initiating an inquiry into the matter, it was revealed that the Customs officials with the connivance of the bank staff had stolen the pay orders.
The sources said that the Customs had arrested Yousuf, a banker, and clearing agent Rizwan. However, due to involvement of a Customs official in the case the matter is being hushed up.When contacted, a senior Customs official confirmed that the pay orders were stolen. However, he did not confirm that the pay orders were en-cashed.
