NAB orders inquiry against DRAP officer

Islamabad: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Justice (r) Javed Iqbal Wednesday ordered inquiry against officer of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), Sheikh Akhtar Hussein for having assets beyond known sources of income and declaring him deceased in two references of NAB.

The chairman also took notice of appointing Akhtar as chief executive officer of DRAP in BS-19 against post of BS-21 despite accusations of corruption and NAB inquiry. Besides, no departmental inquiry was conducted against him with regard to his assets beyond known sources of income.

NAB Rawalpindi has been directed to present inquiry report against Akhtar Hussain, NAB announced here. It merits mentioning here that NAB is also conducting inquiry against Aslam Afghani, former Chief Executive DRAP, Ministry of National Health Services, who had been appointed CEO despite owing a private pharmaceutical company in contrary to law. Afghani played decisive role in enhancing medicine prices. His company got benefit while millions of people had borne burden of medicines on higher rates.
