Rawalpindi: The Punjab Development Working Party Tuesday approved a mega project for remodelling and renovation of Ammar Chowk on which work would kick off next month and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the current year i.e. December 31, 2018. The work on the project would be carried over by Rawalpindi Development Authority.
Credible sources told ‘The News’ that the overall cost of the project is Rs675 millions out of which Rs129 millions have already been released by the Punjab government prior to the approval of the project.
In many cases, funds are allocated and released prior to projects approval, the sources cleared while replying to a query. The remaining amount of the total allocation would be earmarked in the annual budget of 2018-19 and would be released in phases in accordance with the requirement.
Giving details of the project, the sources told that traffic suspension had become a daily routine at Ammar Chowk. It was a longstanding issue raised by the people for enforcing measures to resolve the mess of traffic choking over there.
Taking notice of the complaints and demands of the people the punjab chief minister directed the city district government for enforcing measures to end traffic congestions on permanent basis.
As per directives of the Punjab government, the city district administration directed RDA to prepare a plan for enforcing project for resolution of traffic issue at Ammar Chowk. The concerned authorities of RDA prepared feasibility st0udy which was submitted with the PDWP.
