‘KP govt to launch tourism activities on district level’

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to establish tourism-related activities in all the districts aimed at creating interaction among the people from different areas and generate economic activities, besides promotion of tourism.

In this regard the performance management and reforms unit (PMRU), on the directives of Chief Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan, has issued directives to all the deputy commissioners of the province for opening new avenues of tourism and adventure/sport activities to generate economic activities and promote soft image of the province, said a handout.

The directives said that all the deputy commissioners would have to identify suitable areas/places in their respective districts, being feasible for the tourism-cum-adventure sporting.

In the directives, the following fields were identified for the said activities; these are rafting (areas where rivers exist), desert safari (area where desert type land exists), paragliding and off roading (area where open mountainous terrains exist), skiing (areas having snowy/sloppy nature), hiking (areas having scenic beauty) and zip-lining (areas having sloppy terrain).

For this purpose, the deputy commissioners were directed to identify such places in their respective districts where the above mentioned activities could be managed and the same should be coordinated with tourism department, KP for preparing a feasibility report and the same should be communicated to the PMRU, chief secretary office within a month through a prescribed proforma positively.
