A court on Thursday ordered the arrest of the Mominabad police Station House Officer (SHO), Mumtaz Marwat, for failing to assist the court in the murder case of a young boy, Rehan Ahmed.
The court of the Judicial Magistrate (West) while issuing arrest warrants for the SHO concerned observed that the police official should be arrested and produced before the court on January 15.
It is alleged that 14-year-old Rehan Ahmed was killed in the area of Quaid-e-Awam Colony after the SHO had ordered the policemen to open fire at the people who had gathered in the area in November, 2017.
The police had claimed that the cops reached there to arrest some drug peddlers. A policeman, Majid, and his informer, Tahir alias Dabbu, were arrested in the murder case of Rehan Ahmed, son of Fida Hussain Shah, a student of grade VI. Father of the deceased had lodged a case under Seciton 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The father had stated that his son, Rehan, and other children of the colony had stepped out of their houses to witness the exchange of heated words between Tahir and a group of local people but he was killed.
He further said that after hearing gunshots, Rehan’s brother went out to check on Rehan but soon came running back to inform the family that Rehan had been injured. Rehan was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment but the doctors at the emergency centre of the hospital told that Rehan had died on the way. Later four men, namely Majid, Tahir, Abdur Razzaq and Ikram Farooqui, were arrested. However, SHO Mumtaz Marwat and another policeman, who is also alleged to have his involvement in the case, are still in hiding.
