More than 950 acres of occupied land has been recovered in different areas of the city during action taken against land mafia.
This was revealed in a meeting presided over by Karachi commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui in the presence of deputy commissioners and SSPs of all districts and director local government Robina Asif.
The deputy commissioners informed Siddiqui that more than 950 acres of occupied land had been retrieved during the crackdown against land grabbers.
Around 800 acres of land was freed in Malir, said its deputy commissioner while that for district Korangi said the land of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University had been freed from illegal occupants.
The deputy commissioner for district West said encroachment had been removed from 4-K area of North Karachi and more than 50 acres of land had been retrieved from occupiers. He said an operation was also carried out on the land of Karachi Port Trust.
A representative of the Association of Builders And Developers (ABAD) requested the evacuation of Scheme-33 in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and other construction projects from land mafia.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Siddiqui said encroachment on government lands was increasing by the day and it was time that the occupiers were dealt with strictly.
He asked the representative of ABAD to point out encroached lands and also asked the administration Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s district municipal corporations and the police to take action against criminals.
