ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, as well as all countries located on the northern hemisphere of the globe, was experience the shortest day of the year on Thursday. Officials of the Pakistan meteorological department (PMD) said that in technical parlance the phenomenon was referred to as the winter solstice. December Solstice (Winter Solstice) was on Thursday, 21 December 2017, 21:27 in Islamabad. In terms of daylight, this day is 4 hours, 29 minutes shorter than on June Solstice. In most locations north of Equator, the shortest day of the year is around this date. Solstice is defined as either of the two times of the year at which the sun is furthest north or south of the equator. While the winter solstice falls on December 21, the summer solstice occurs on June 21, a PMD official explained.
