Woman hurt in celebratory firing in Gizri

A 34-year-old woman was shot and injured in an incident of celebratory aerial firing at a wedding in Upper Gizri early on Friday morning. Clifton police SHO Muhammad Shahid said Sehrish, wife of Tahir Khan, was injured by one of the many bullets which were being fired in the air during wedding revelries near Ghausia Masjid, Upper Gizri. He said the victim was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors declared her condition out of danger after treatment.

Man drowns

A 45-year-old man drowned at sea while cleaning a vessel in the city’s fisheries area on Friday. Docks police SHO Waqar Qaiser identified the victim as Gul Zaman, son of Ameen Khan. He said Zaman was cleaning a ship anchored in the fisheries area when he fell over into the sea.

The officer said rescue teams were called in and Zaman was fished out and rushed to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival and his body was handed over to family members.
