RIS holds Sports Day
Islamabad: Roots International Schools (RIS) held its annual inter-house sports event in the nationwide campuses under the umbrella of RIS Sports and Adventure Society, says a press release.
This year’s event focused on track and field competitions. Two weeks prior to the main event, various athletic events had been organised and all the students participated with great zeal and rigor. Among the categories competed included the 4×100 relay, the 100m sprint and the tug-of-war.
For the event the playgrounds were decorated according with colourful and vibrant displays all around with the props, flags and balloons of the respective house colours. A special category between the teacher association as well as the college staff was also contested, and won comfortably by the former. The principals congratulated the staff for their efforts and gave certificates to the winners.
Maximum per cent of the students from all sections participated enthusiastically in this event. Children presented a spectacular welcome dance, PT display, aerobics and breathtaking display of gymnastics. Students also participated in different games like karate, sack-race, bean-bag race, one-leg race, sprint race, hurdle race and spoon & lemon race. Audience, mainly comprising parents and guardians, highly appreciated the efforts of all the students. Headmistresses along with teachers welcomed the guests and distributed the prizes amongst the winners.
RIS CEO Walid Mushtaq stated that physical education is an essential part of students’ life and appreciated the efforts and hard work of the administration and the teachers of RIS campuses. ‘Sports and physical training leads the individuals towards success. It is a significant constituent of a students’ life and that is how a child learns how to savour the win and how to endure defeat’. He concluded his speech with the quote: ‘Winners win, winners lose, but winners play.’
The CEO RIS appreciated the heads and their teams for their contribution towards making this event successful in a busy schedule as they cooperated and prepared the students for highly competitive games. Special appreciation was given for the efforts put in by Sobia Aleem and Richmond Campus Team, Sobia Abid of Rawal Campus Team, Mehreen and F-10 Campus Team, Nadiya Sultan and Westridge Campus Team, Asma and Winchester Team, Faiqa and Model Town Lahore Team, Repton Campus G-15 Team, Saman and Wah Gandhara Campus Team and Ms. Kokab and A-8 Officer’s Society Team. All of the heads were commended for the efforts as they pulled of such a successful Sports Day inspite of the dramatic situation in the country.
Under the patronage of CEO RIS and Rector MIUC Walid Mushtaq, Sports Day is organised every year to promote and foster the importance of sports and games in school which encompass more than just the benefit of physical activity. It increases self-esteem and mental alertness of every school age child. Dazzling display of sports drill, yoga and karate were put up by the students, befitting the theme of the sports meet.
