A fire that broke out in a multistorey building on II Chundrigar Road was extinguished after several hours of hectic efforts by fire fighters. The blaze caused tens of millions of rupees losses but fortunately there were no casualties.
Cause of the fire is stated to be a short circuit.
According to the Central Fire Station, the fire broke out in an office on the fourth floor of the Commerce Centre at about 11:12 am and within minutes it spread to other offices at the floor.
Scores of fire engines of Central Fire Station, two snorkels of the KMC, one fire tender of KPT and one of the Pakistan Navy reached the spot immediately and after hours of struggle were successful in extinguishing the blaze.
The KESC staff also rushed to the scene and disconnected the power.
The people trapped at the affected parts of the building were rescued by the two snorkels. The fire fighters also salvaged seven persons in an unconscious condition, who were shifted to the Civil Hospital.
The police and other the law enforcement agencies (LEA) cordoned off the area till the inferno was fully doused.
