NOWSHERA: The employees union of the Cherat Cement Factory asked the government to constitute a commission to probe the killings of factory workers during search operation.Speaking at a meeting president workers’ union of the Cherat Cement Factory Muhamamd Iqbal demanded constitution of a commission to probe the killing. He also asked the government to provide compensation to the victims’ families.“Victims’ families should be provided compensation from the Shuhada Package and the injured should be provided proper treatment,” he demanded. He asked the government to take notice of the lack of facilities at the Lady Reading Hospital where the injured were asked to get their CT scan and MRI from private laboratories as the hospital facility was out of order.

NOWSHERA: The activists of the Awami National Party (ANP) joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) here on Sunday. Speaking at the party joining ceremony in Ashakhel village, Member National Assembly (MNA) Dr Imran Khattak said that the people had witnessed the fruitful results of policies of the PTI-led provincial government and decided to join the party. Police kill four robbers in Panno Aqil

SUKKUR: The police killed four alleged robbers in Panno Aqil on Sunday. Reports said the police on a tip-off, reached a village of Khosas in Panno Aqil. The armed men resorted to firing at police, which they retaliated and in a 30-minute exchange of fire, killed four robbers.Police said they recovered weapons from them, foiling their bid to loot buses and coaches.Police brought the bodies to a local hospital where one of the dead was identified as Ehsan Kharoos.

Two policemen die due to gas leak in

MUZAFARRABAD: Two policemen died of gas leak at a room in police station in Muzaffarabad on Sunday.The incident occurred at a police station where a gas mysteriously filled in a room, thus claiming lives of two cops. The identity of the cops is not ascertained as yet. The police officials are also investigating other clues whether it was a ‘foul play’ or a natural incident. Bodies of the cops were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Sulemanki Headworks to be upgraded

OKARA: Punjab Irrigation Minister Mian Yawar Zaman Sunday said the Headworks Sulemanki on the Sutlej River would be upgraded for its full capacity with the cost of Rs 800 million with the cooperation of a Chinese company in two years. Talking to reporters at his residence after the cancellation of the visit of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at the headworks where the CM was scheduled to lay foundation stone of the project, the minister said the headworks would provide additional irrigation water to Okara, Pakpattan, Vehari and Bahawalnagar districts. He said upgradation would be completed of barrages and headworks of other canals as well.

760 arrested in crackdown under NAP
LAHORE: Police registered 684 cases and arrested 760 people on charges of graffiti, misuse of loudspeaker and publication of hate literature. Police started a cleanup operation under National Action Plan and seized 133 loudspeakers, amplifiers, books, pamphlets and CDs containing religious hate literature from the arrested people.

PTI candidates for Senate election
to be finalised on Wednesday
ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Board of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will finalise names of candidates from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on February 11. The last date of application for party nomination to Senate election is Monday (Feb 9). The process of evaluation and personal interviews will be conducted by the Parliamentary Board which will submit their short listing and recommendation to PTI Chairman Imran Khan for his final approval.

188 more nabbed in search, strike operations in KP

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, in the ongoing search and strike operations throughout the province, rounded up 188 suspects and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition. As per an official communiqué, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police recovered 38 arms with ammunition of different kinds and 1,690 rounds of different bore in various areas of the province. It said that 827 houses and 253 hotels were checked and six cases registered against the violators.

Four killed in Bannu violence

BANNU: Four persons, including two brothers, were killed in separate incidents in the district on Sunday, sources said. The sources said that one Karimullah exchanged harsh words with two brothers identified as Sadratullah and Rehmatullah in Kot Belli village over some issue and allegedly opened fire on them, leaving both of them dead on the spot. The accused escaped the scene while the police registered the case against the accused. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old Ghufran was killed by a hit-and-run motorcyclist in Kotka Mir Alam. Yet, in another incident, Rafiullah was allegedly gunned down and Sharifullah sustained injuries in firing by Gulfaraz, Bashir and Abdul Haq in Taji Killay over an old enmity.

Two injured in grenade blast

PESHAWAR: Two labourers were injured in a hand-grenade blast while five grenades were defused in rural Peshawar on Sunday, police said. In the first incident, a police official said two labourers were injured in Sufaid Dheri area in a hand grenade blast while they were busy digging at an under-construction house.A grenade, planted in the house, went off during digging, injuring Hamza and Hanif. The injured were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), where their condition was said to be stable. In separate incident, the bomb disposal unit (BDU) officials defused five hand grenades in Nasir Bagh locality. On the information of locals, police said the BDU team was called to the area, which defused the five hand grenades on the spot.

Extortionist killed in Akora

NOWSHERA: The security forces claimed to have killed an extortionist in an exchange of fire in Akora Khattak on Sunday.The sources said that an alleged extortionist, Gohar Ali Khattak, was wanted to the law enforcement agencies for his links with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. He was allegedly involved in extortion and kidnapping for ransom. The security forces said that a search party raided his house in Shaidu and asked him to surrender. The sources claimed that announcements were made through loudspeakers after soldiers surrounded his house asking Gohar to surrender. However, the sources said, firing started on soldiers from the house. The soldiers, they said, killed the extortionist in the retaliatory fire.

Six suspects held in Lakki

LAKKI MARWAT: The police arrested six suspected persons in search and strike operations carried out in two Afghan refugee camps in the limits of Serai Naurang Police Station on Sunday, sources said. The sources said that the police along with other law-enforcement agencies personnel conducted search operation in the Afghan refugee camps in Gandi Chowk and Nali Chak and arrested six suspected persons. The identity of the held suspects, believed to be Afghan nationals, could not be made public as they were shifted to an undisclosed location for an interrogation.

Man found dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A young man was found dead inside a scrap shop in the Afghan Colony here on Sunday, sources said. The sources said that 25-year-old Shahid Ali, resident of Charsadda, was earning his living by collecting scrapped items and selling them at the shop where the owner had permitted him to stay for night. “The body of Shahid Ali was lying in pool of blood as I opened the shop in the morning,” an official quoted the owner as saying. The body was shifted to a hospital for autopsy and later handed over to the family members for burial.

Police accused of custodial death

LAHORE: A 60-year-old man in Shalimar police custody died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. The police had arrested the victim, Sarwar, and his two sons Arif and Mehran from Sheikhupura six days back in a theft case registered in 2014. Sarwar and his two sons were on remand. The victim’s family accused the police of torturing him to death during interrogation. The police claimed that Sarwar had died of cardiac seizure. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy.

Body found in Lakki Marwat

LAKKI MARWAT: The police found a body near Paharkhel Thall village in the limits of Lakki Marwat Police Station on Sunday, sources said. The sources said that unidentified accused stabbed to death a man, whose identity could not be ascertained, and dumped his body in a local graveyard. The body was shifted to the Government City Hospital in Lakki City for autopsy and identification.

Prisoner dies in Camp Jail

LAHORE: A prisoner of the Camp Jail died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. Salahuddin of Kot Shah Din Mozang was jailed in a drug case. The jail sources said Salahuddin had suddenly fallen ill and was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced brought dead.
