Govt designates eight points for cattle markets in city

The Sindh government on Monday designated eight locations for sacrificial animal markets in the city and imposed a ban on establishment of such markets anywhere else except the selected spots.

A notification issued by the Sindh Home Department conveyed that the ban would come into immediate effect till September 4 and action would be taken against markets set up anywhere except the eight designated spots.

The notification reads, “A central cattle mandi has been set up by the Malir Cantonment Board at Super Highway till Eidul Azha 2017, and traditionally, following cattle markets are also setup in the city: (1) Super Highway; (2) Malir 15, Ansoo Goth; (3) Cattle mandi, Landhi; (4) Rice Godown, Landhi, near Baber Market; (5) Hamdard University near Manghopir; (6) Mawach Goth, Baldia Town; (7) Cattle mandi permitted by Station Commander Karachi in the limits of Clifton Cantonment Board; (8) Cattle mandi permitted by the president, Karachi Cantonment Board, in the limits of the Karachi Cantonment Board.”

“Every year an order under Section 144 of the CrPC is issued prohibiting setting up of cattle markets except at above mentioned locations in order to avoid traffic congestion, unhygienic conditions and security issues. It is therefore imperative to impose a ban on setting up of cattle markets in the Karachi Division except at the above mentioned locations.”

“The government of Sindh, in exercise of the powers conferred under section 144 (6) CrPC, hereby imposes a ban on establishing of cattle markets within the local limits/jurisdiction of the Karachi Division except at the above mentioned locations with immediate effect and till September 4, 2017.”

“In pursuance of Section 195 (i) (a) CrPC, the SHOs of concerned police stations are hereby authorised to register complaints under Section 188 PPC in writing for the violation of Section 144 CrPC against the violators of the notification.”
