Effective dengue monitoring sought in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Kh Salman Rafiq has directed for holding video linked meetings of entomologists of all the districts on weekly basis for effective monitoring of dengue situation in the province.

He stated this while chairing a cabinet committee meeting on dengue in the committee room of Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. Additional Director General Health Dengue Control Dr Farrukh Sultan gave presentation on the latest dengue situation in the province. Besides elected representatives, senior officers of all departments concerned attended the meeting. The deputy commissioners and CEOs Health of other districts participated in the meeting through a video link. Dr Farrukh Sultan said during 2017, 46 confirmed dengue patients have so far been reported in Punjab. The officers of other districts apprised the meeting of dengue control activities through the video link.

The meeting reviewed the arrangements to control Congo virus on Eid-ul-Azha. Kh Salman Rafiq said foolproof arrangements should be made to check ticks on the sacrificial animals. He said transportation of animals is being made across the province, therefore, Livestock Department should ensure medical checkup and vaccination of animals.
