The PML-N member who is also son-in-law of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif reacted in strong words after Ghulam Sarwar Khan called members of the Sharif family as plunderers and dacoits. Both exchanged harsh words during proceedings.

The remarks of PTI member, however, were expunged by the deputy speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi who was chairing the proceedings. Captain (R) Safdar said no charges of corruption were proved against Nawaz Sharif and he was punished for making Pakistan a nuclear power as well as an economic tiger.

He said that Ghulam Sarwar Khan himself had track record of changing political loyalties as in the past he was associated with PPP and PML-Q. He said the PTI member has been facing many criminal charges.

Meanwhile, the controversial issue of Kalabagh Dam echoed in the National Assembly as parliamentarians from PPP warned the government against consequences of raising such matters in the House.

“You should not discuss such controversial issues which can endanger democracy and unity in the country,” Ayaz Soomro and other members of PPP while reacting to remarks of Minister of State for Water Resources Javed Ali Shah in support of Kalabagh Dam said.

Javed Ali Shah felt that Kalabagh Dam was lifeline of Pakistan and the mega project should not be rejected for the sake of biased politics and point scoring. The minister gave statement about the water reservoir after the PPP member Nawab Yousuf Talpur said the water crisis in Sindh province was being created to pave way for Kalabagh Dam.

Ayaz Soomro was of the view that the PML-N minister and member were again raising the dead issue of Kalabagh Dam saying that three provinces except Punjab have rejected the highly controversial project.

Soomro maintained that Kalabagh Dam could only be raised over their dead bodies. “You should stop talking about Kalabagh Dam which will also be damaging for your politics and unity in the country,” he said, adding there should be no campaign on this issue if the government wanted to see Pakistan united. He said the politicians should refrain from talking about dirty project like Kalabagh Dam.

Shagufta Jumani and Dr Nafeesa Shah also strongly opposed discussing Kalabagh Dam in the House, saying the PML-N government was trying to flog a dead horse by raising the controversial project. Shagufta Jumani said that a dictator also attempted to execute the Kalabagh Dam project but he could not materialise his plans.

Ghulam Ahmad Bilour of Awami National Party (ANP) came harsh on the government for taking up the issue, saying controversial matters should not be touched. Parveen Masood Bhatti and Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan also advocated project of Kalabagh Dam saying that had the mega plan executed, there could have been no water and energy crisis in the country.
