Over a dozen stalls burnt in Hyderi Market fire

Over a dozen stalls were burnt in a fire near the Hyderi Market on Monday. Officials of the Sohrab Goth’s fire station said the blaze destroyed over a dozen cabins placed near the market.

A fire tender reached the spot and extinguished the blaze within an hour, but the cause of fire was yet to be ascertained, they added. SHO Zulfiqar Haider said the fire broke out inside one of the cabins at about 7:30am and it soon engulfed surrounding cabins having shoes and fast food items.

On April 25, a tyre warehouse in Mauripur was substantially damaged in a massive fire, whereas two furniture shops were burnt in a separate incident in Malir. No casualties or injuries were reported in either of the cases.

Officials of the Saddar Fire Station said the blaze in Mauripur broke out at around 1:03am in a warehouse – Plot No XK-428, Lyari Quarters, Mauripur Road – and quickly intensified to a ‘third-degree blaze’. It took 14 hours to completely douse the blaze.

The day’s other fire incident was reported at a furniture market in Memon Goth, Malir. That blaze destroyed two shops and was doused by three fire tenders in an hour. Prior to that, on April 2, a garments factory in the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) was gutted in a fire that broke out late at night.

The blaze started at around 1am but three fire tenders were initially dispatched to the scene at 3:48am. No loss of life was reported incident. The fire was brought under control after 16 hours.
