Islamabad: The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) has initiated action to ensure the compliance of 'Prohibition of Non-biodegradable Plastic Bags (Manufacturing, Sale, Usage and Disposal) 2013 in markets of Islamabad.
The Environmental Monitoring Team (EMT) comprising Mr. Khalid Mehmood Chadhar, Deputy Director (EE & TT), Ms. Saima Nazir, Deputy Director (GIS) and Madiha Naz, Assistant Director (GIS) coped with the Police escort of ICT conducted the monitoring of Super-Market, F-6, Islamabad on July 13.
During the visit, the each and every shop/store of the market were visited, whereas only 19 stores/shops were found non-compliant. Legal notices were served on the spot on the owners and managers of those stores and shops and were called to appear on July 17, 2017, at 11:00am in the office of DG Pak-EPA for personal hearing under the law.
The team said the Pak-EPA was committed to making Islamabad a clean and plastic bag pollution free city. It asked citizens of Islamabad to report any non-compliance and stop using plastic bags.
