PAC chief rejects demand for technical briefing on Kalabagh Dam

ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman, Syed Khursheed Shah, Wednesday rejected a demand of members of the PML-N in the committee for technical briefing on the Kalabagh Dam and said that at a time when the government was already in crisis, it would be better not to open another Pandora box.

The issue was raised in the PAC meeting when the officials of the Ministry of Water and Power were briefing the need of mega dams for storage to avert the water crisis, and the PML-N members of the committee Mian Abdul Manan, Javed Ikhlas and Junaid Anwaar Chaudhry demanded for technical briefing on viability of the Kalabagh Dam. However, PAC Chairman Syed Khursheed Shah did not agree to the PML-N members demand saying at a time when the government was already in crisis, it would be better not to open Pandora box.

However, the PML-N members of PAC did not further stressed for their proposal for technical briefing from the Ministry of Water and Power on Kalabagh Dam after the remarks of PAC Chairman.
